“0% sugar” soft drink aren’t as good as you think

Anyone who likes to drink diet soda because they think that at least it is better for their health than regular soda because it is sugar-free and does not make you fat, and has no energy, may have to change their thinking on this matter. Boston University in the United States found that these drinks may increase the risk of dementia and stroke more than regular soda, which may be more serious than obesity.

Many people already know this, but there are still many who don’t. A research team from Boston University in the United States studied a sample of 4,372 people aged 45 and over for 10 years about the food and drinks they consumed. They found that those who drank one can of diet soda a day had a 2.9 times higher risk of dementia and stroke than those who did not drink it.

That’s because an ingredient in diet soda called “aspartame,” a sugar substitute sweetener, can cause blood vessels to narrow, ยูฟ่าเบท which is one of the causes of dementia and stroke.

However, Mathis Paes, one of the researchers at Boston University School of Medicine, said that while there is no clear link between sugary drinks and stroke and dementia, that doesn’t mean they are any healthier than diet soda.

While a study earlier this year by Imperial College London in England also concluded about diet soft drinks that using sweeteners instead of sugar does not affect body weight as many people believe. It is just a sweetener that does not provide energy.
